Fabric Head-Board

/ Sunday, April 22, 2012 /

Last week I was looking at fabric head-boards for a client of mine. We have a fantastic patterned fabric that we like and if we go ahead with this option, we would keep the head-board style simple so to let the fabric shine.
I'm liking this bedroom with its own unique fabric head-board - the room has an overall grand style yet is still simple. Love the colours too.

Pink and Picasso

/ Monday, March 12, 2012 /

Recognise the bed head-board in this bedroom?  You may remember seeing it here as the former occupants of this room, artist Julian Schanbel and his wife, Olatz are no longer together. While the bed head-board has moved to a more simpler (but still grand) turquoise space, it held its own in this vibrant and baroque-style pink room with Picasso's Femme au Chapeau hanging nearby. Impressive.

Spotted On Remodelista - this lovely barn bedroom scene with a divine cow blanket! This is a range of bedlinen designed by stylish actress, Diane Keaton called K by Keaton and sold in the USA through Bed Bath and Beyond.

Resene Habitat Magazine - Summer 2011/12.

/ Sunday, October 2, 2011 /

This weekend I received the latest Habitat magazine from Resene in my mailbox. And in this issue, there was a section that I worked on several months ago. It is called Alternative Solutions (I'm on page 22 & 23), where they ask two designers to re-create a chosen room from a house that is featured in the magazine, using Resene colours and products that are available to the New Zealand market. The chosen room was a bedroom so I proposed a modern Scandi inspired room and recommended several products from Father Rabbit, Country Road, Thonet, Simon James Design, Etsy and ECC. The finished result is the above - all pulled together by a computer! What do you think?

A Great Bed Head-Board with Shelving.

/ Tuesday, August 23, 2011 /

Here is a cool example of an effective and useful head board around the bed.
This is from the Sydney home of stylist Megan Morton and she says this “Can you imagine what it’s like to wake up knowing all these amazing books are behind me?!” Yep, she's pretty happy with this. See the rest of her interesting home here.

TGIF - A Slice of Zen

/ Thursday, August 4, 2011 /
It's Friday and I'm in a somewhat Zen mood. So this room hits the spot for me today as well as yoga class later. Have a lovely weekend.

Shelf above the Bed.

/ Monday, January 24, 2011 /
Clients have often asked me about locating a shelf above the bed's headboard. I tend to get nervous about this as I worry about objects falling on their head while one is sleeping - and I don't want any of clients waking up grumpy at me! However, this image, by stylist Stella Nicolaisen, makes it look really good. I'd recommend small and only a  few objects on the shelf...

Bunk Beds

One thing I regret about no longer being a child is not being to hang out in the cool bunk rooms in holiday homes like the ones above. Sigh.

Recycle, Restore and Re-use.

/ Thursday, September 23, 2010 /

Before - waiting for its pick up by my joiners.

After - now a bedside table and extra bedroom storage.

This piece of furniture was previously a retail shop fixture. Back in the day, I was a Visual Merchandiser for fashion and homeware brand, Country Road and while working there CR replaced all their fixtures and were selling off the old ones. So I brought what was known as the 'incubator' by my CR colleagues and it has been floating around through different family member's homes until I had a place for it. By the time I picked it up, it was worse for wear - the veneer was peeling off on the top from the hot sun. I knew this would be a handy piece so I got my joiners to re-use the base and replace the top. It looks great in the crisp white.

Happy Friday

/ Thursday, May 27, 2010 /

It's a freezing cold wintery day in Wellington - this photo sums up where I want to be right now. Happy Friday and keep warm this weekend.
