Recycling Coney Island Boardwalk

/ Wednesday, August 1, 2012 /
There was an article recently in the NY Times exploring the all the places that the reclaimed timber from Coney Island Boardwalk ended up. Some of the end results included the floor in a musuem, a public pool, a coffee bar and the Venice, California home (above) belonging to chef, Travis Lett. It's fascinating to hear about how this historical, well worn and endangered timber ended up all over the USA in its new uses - read it here.

Dark Floors

/ Tuesday, March 22, 2011 /
I am designing a new kitchen and the clients are keen on a dark timber floor. I've had a look around and I tend to like the matte stained version like the example above. This still lets the timber grain come through and give depth to the floor.

Inspiration - Chocolate Brown Squares

/ Wednesday, May 12, 2010 /
From India Hicks 'Island Life'
Brown and white square flooring
Mosaic tiles from Bisazza
After looking at India Hick's interiors last week, I had been admiring the chocolate and white pattern on her chairs. Surprisingly I came across the similar pattern as flooring. Wondering if I could do this pattern with tiles, I found the Bisazza example. It's rather effective, isn't it? I wonder if my client will like this idea...
